OBJECTIVE
Adjunct Instructor of Jazz Drumming - Allowing for the instruction of professional Jazz Drumming in a University or Orchestral setting
Profile
Carl Wayne Wesley, AKA Wayne Wesley, was born and raised in Chester Pennsylvania. Attracted to music at an early age, his maternal Grandmother purchased him a red medal flake snare drum. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elder Wesley, noticed the passion Wayne had for music and arranged private lessons. In Pulaski Junior High School, Wayne was chosen as a soloist for Christmas and Spring Concerts. Wayne attended Chester High School in Chester Pennsylvania, where he was an Honor Student, and Drum Captain, of the acclaimed Chester High School Marching Clippers’ Band; under the direction of Clara Fitzpatrick. In 1973, Wayne auditioned, and was accepted into Pennsylvania Eastern State Champions Brookhaven Crusaders Open Class Drum and Bugle Corps. Wayne’s percussion teacher was world famous percussionist, Joe Merrello. Wayne received a four year music scholarship from Mount Senario College in Wisconsin, where he received his BS in Music Education. In 1979, Wayne auditioned for the United States Army Band, and attended the Armed Forces School of Music in Little Creek Virginia. As a career percussionist in the US Army Band, Wayne toured Europe with the United States Army Band Europe, where he was featured as a soloist with the Concert Orchestra and Jazz Big Band. Wayne has performed for every US President from Ronald Reagan to George Bush Jr. In 1995, Wayne retired from the United States Army Band, and auditioned for Holland America Cruise Lines in New York City. Wayne was assigned as the Show band Percussionist aboard the Cruise Ship Nordamm. Wayne also holds a master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from Kaplan University, now Purdue Global.
Some of Wayne’s performances accomplishments: Fiddler on the Roof, Benjamin Briton’s Noah’s Flood, The Cotton Club Review, Dave Brubeck’s Light in the Wilderness, Parade of American Music, Cat’s, My fair Lady, A Tribute to Broadway, Handel’s Messiah, and Crowns, and Phantom of the Opera. Wayne has also worked as a sideman for the Savannah Symphony Orchestra, and the Percussionist for the Savannah Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Teddy Adams.

ED DAWLEY

Ed (Armistead) Dawley hails from Norfolk, Va., where he first had musical instruction on piano at the age of eight. One year before embarking on a European sojourn that was to last 16 years, Ed began his study of the acoustic bass. While studying with bassists Santi Debriano and Curtis Lundy, Ed became a local on the Paris, France musical scene, playing with such notables as Bobby Few, Joe Lee Wilson and Mra Oma. In 1983, Ed held the bass chair during a one-month gig in Casablanca, Morocco with saxophonist T. K. Blue. In 1992, he played the Pori, Finland Jazz Festival with Yusef Lateef.
Since 1996, Ed has resided in Dover, Delaware. Since moving here, he has worked regularly with many jazz groups in the region, most notably, Shore Jazz, Jazzmen, Keepers of the Flame, Holy Cross Hispanic Choir and the New Music Trio. As a board member of the Inner City Cultural League in Dover, Ed organizes bi-monthly jam sessions attended by musicians from all over the state and beyond. He is also bassist with the Faculty Jasz Ensemble at Delaware State University, where he is an Associate Professor of French and occasional guitar instructor. Since 2015, Ed has been a member of the Delaware Jazz Alliance .
